Well this is not how we expected this year to pan out! If you’ve had to postpone your wedding due to COVID you’re definitely not alone, but that doesn’t make it any easier. When your original date is creeping up you might find yourself sad, angry or overwhelmed. But try not to spend the date thinking about what could have been, use it to celebrate your love as you had intended. It might not be how you originally envisioned it, but you’ll be happy you chose to honour the day despite the circumstances. Here’s a number of ways to make it a special day:
Get dressed up
You don’t have to wear your dress and suits but maybe a white dress or your veil.
Hold a mini ceremony
You could even exchange rings. Either just the two of you and or invite closest family and friends round for a socially distanced garden ceremony, or maybe invite them to a group zoom call to join in the fun.
Say your vows
This was the day you were planning on seal your marriage vows so why not honour this by reciting your vows together. And yes you will still have to legally say them in the future, but this is a lovely way to take back your wedding date.
Enjoy your ‘wedding meal’
As many venues are starting to reopen, could you visit your venue and have a fancy meal, or recreate your wedding menu at home
Eat cake!
What’s a wedding celebration without cake? Could you order a small cake from a local baker, maybe the same flavours you have ordered. Cut the cake together and enjoy it.
Have a photo shoot!
Some of my couples who have moved their wedding dates have organised a pre wedding shoot on their original date instead. Something to look forward to and remember forever
Have your first dance
Get those candles or twinkling fairy lights on in your sitting room or garden and have your ‘first dance’. You chose this song for a reason so make it even more special.
Whatever you do, enjoy it. Life isn’t always as we expect but we have to make the most of it and enjoy it when we can so take back your wedding date and have some fun!
